Mike discovered his passion for fitness in his early 20s to occupy his time while doing 6-month tours in the Western Pacific on the USS Constellation aircraft carrier, and he has had a love for the gym ever since. He started his first tour as a skinny 165-pound young man and returned as a muscular and confident 180-pound proud seaman.
After the Navy, during college, Mike started competing in powerlifting but also found joy in competitive kickboxing. He found the science of fitness fascinating and used every opportunity to attend each class, seminar, and training workshop he came across, thus earning certifications in general fitness, senior fitness, group training, special population, sport-specific, martial arts, and nutrition.
Mike opened his own gym in North Carolina and, for over 20 years, helped hundreds of clients achieve a better quality of life through fitness. With his training as a Certified Special Populations Specialist, Mike helped people with health conditions such as cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia, arthritis, osteoporosis, stroke and brain injuries, Parkinson’s, MS, cancer, depression, bariatric weight loss, and joint replacements. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, he has also trained athletes of all skill levels. As a Precision Sports Nutritionist, he has assisted individuals in losing body fat and gaining muscle through observing dietary patterns, meal planning, and teaching healthy eating habits.
In 2018, he returned to California and found himself drawn even more to the 50+ demographic. In his spare time, Mike loves to stay active by hiking with his wife, spending time with his frisbee dog named Winston, and golfing.
